“Living well and stressing less”, sounds good doesn’t it? And who wouldn’t want to? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could live in a stress-free world, a world that did what we wanted when we wanted it to, and wouldn’t it be fantastic to be surrounded by people who had only our best interests at heart? Well the truth is, it isn’t going to happen. The world isn’t like that and the people who surround us are certainly not like that either.
A shame isn’t it? The reality is that things are not always going to go our way. Sometimes they will, and sometimes they won’t, and sometimes things are going to go very badly awry and we are going to have to cope with them. We are all going to get our fair share of disappointments, setbacks, heartaches and heartbreaks. That’s not life picking on us, that’s just life. It goes with being human, it’s part of the territory. How we cope with it, ah that’s the thing!
Happily we have ACT to help us. This blog is an ACT blog. ACT loves stories, ACT loves images and ACT loves metaphors. I believe that ACT loves poetry too.
Because the therapeutic power of poetry has been known about since ancient times and it is no coincidence that Apollo was the dual god of medicine and poetry. ACT Made Lyrical provides an interface of the Arts and Psychology; it marries the scientific with the poetic. This “marriage” makes ACT Made Lyrical both unique and powerful. Why? Because it is able to deliver the scientifically based ACT therapeutic message in a more “heartfelt” way than that open to ordinary prose. This is the power of poetry. It puts the heart back into therapy.
In these pages and posts there will be poems, pictures and stories to help and inspire and there will be lots of other ACT goodies to help us on our way.
If you are new to ACT there will be plenty of information and inspiration to get you started and keep you going. If you are already an “expert” please feel free to contribute and commentate. All contributions will be gratefully accepted.
What ACT offers to all of us is an adventure, the adventure of finding the good life in the midst of life’s challenges.
I am a student of ACT. I am on a journey. I would love you to join me.
I look forward to getting to know you.
